New WhatsApp Beta Surfaces With Support For Music Sharing, Public Groups And Larger Emojis

Facebook owned cross-platform messaging app WhatsApp isn’t one to be lying low. To compete with the new features announced for the iMessage by Apple this year in WWDC, WhatsApp is soon going to unveil its own line of new features for its one billion strong user base.

According to a German website, the features are out on a beta version of the app built for iOS. Screenshots leaked show the ability to share music stored locally on the device as well as from Apple Music. Album arts now appear in the conversation threads along with the option to play the music by tapping on it.

Even more, much awaited features like public groups, Twitter-like mentions and larger emojis are coming to iOS. To start a public group, the admins can simply share a link to its users to join the groups. The same link can be withdrawn to close the group. Mentions will let users tag other people in their chats, just like how it happens on Twitter. As for emojis, the larger icons will help people express in a better way and will act as an alternative to stickers that is popular with other messaging apps like Hike, Line, etc.

All these features appear in the beta version released for iOS. There is no word, as of now, when it will be available to the mainstream public and for Android users.
